Sarnia’s very own man of mystery and intrigue Mike Blackmore released a show appropriately titled “………Seriously?”, it will be two one hour sets of his original music, as well as a 15 piece display of Mike’s digital photographic art which will remain on display and for sale during the months of March and April.
For those not yet aware of Mike, he is a creative spirit overflowing with artistic abilities of many kinds. Musically, he is an inventive writer of original songs as well as an interpreter of well loved pieces such as George Gershwin’s “Summertime” making them sound like he wrote them himself. Currently he is working on expanding the original content he plays on stage as well as choosing which of the songs will be featured on an upcoming album. Either with a band or solo, with a guitar or a hand drum, he is always entertaining and engaging. Brian Hay, a local reviewer, put it this way regarding Mike’s solo shows … “He plays the music like it means something and has great ways to present it that keep things interesting in a variety of musical settings.”
Another creative side of Mr. Blackmore is in the visual arts. He is magic with wood discovering hidden voices within and creating everything from instruments to Easter Island looking carved totems. His keen eye is also evident in the photographs he takes and sometimes chooses to manipulate. Of note for this show, are recent pictures snapped in Brights Grove along the lake shore. This exhibit and sale captures the icy beauty of our ‘winter wonderland’ in an up-close and personal way you have never experienced before.
Mike plans to keep thinking outside the box, an essential part of how he does things. To quote a verse from one of his latest songs … “Narcissistic, voyeuristic, a charm and a mystic, a dirty word said with a smile.” See… mysterious and intriguing.
