An Evening of Debuts

For the September 1st First Friday, Cheeky Monkey is pleased to welcome a group that will be here for the first time – The HJ’s.  They are an acoustic duo based out of Southern Ontario, dedicated to music and the pleasuring of the human ear-hole. Comprised of core members Harold Collins & Justin Hayes sometimes playing with a guest drummer.   For the gig at Cheeky Monkey, The HJ’s  plan on bringing along Chloe Kendall to sit in on drums and percussion with them.

They give their own spin to songs by popular groups such as  No Doubt, Gnarls Barkley, Outkast, Tool, and Soundgarden among many others.  Their diverse influences include I Mother Earth, Tool and Queens of the Stone Age.   Many Sarnians may remember both members of the HJ’s from their time in the local  band ‘Pistols @ Noon’  where Harold played guitar and Justin played bass.

Also starting on the September First Friday, Cheeky Monkey will have on display an exhibit of art  from artists who have lived and worked in our area. “The Collection” as curated by Bill Walters,  includes paintings, drawings, and prints on a wide variety of themes and subject matter. Works by Ariel Lyons, David Moore, Wolf Mendritski, Anne Marsh Evans, and Jim Evans to name a few will be shown.

Stop into Cheeky Monkey located at 130 Christina Street North downtown Sarnia from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. during the September 1st First Friday to get your ears filled with live music and an eyeful of some of the areas premier artist’s works all in the setting of a real record store.
